Cornucopia
This week Rick Cluff and I launched the Pacific Palate/Early Edition Cornucopia Contest. We want you to write in and tell us about your favorite holiday traditions. They don't have to be new, and they don't have to be about food, but we want you to pass along why these traditions are so dear to you and your family or friends.

Diwali
Don does Diwali. This is the Hindu festival of lights, marking a new beginning, and food of Diwali involves many sweet delights. Don will have a sampling for Rick fresh from the Punjabi Market of Vancouver's Main Street.
I enjoyed the Diwali sweets at the Himalaya Restaurant at 6587 Main Street. (at 50th Avenue in the Punjabi Market area) 604-324-6514. The restaurant and sweet shop has been operating there since 1972. There is another Himalaya in Richmond, at 4093 No. 5 Road, 604-247-2252. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24th and 25th, will be the best days to see a vast array of sweets on display.

Kiwi Invasion
Kiwi invasion - New Zealand has targeted Canada as a prime market for exports. We already have lamb and kiwi, but the push is on to get Canadians to buy New Zealand honey, hot sauces, organic salt and wines. I'll speak with a chef at the Hotel Vancouver who is from New Zealand, he'll be cooking kiwi at a trade event later that week, to which I've secured two tickets for a lucky listener. You have to listen to win!
